Popular Day Tours From Belgrade

Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci and Fruška Gora

The easiest and most popular trip. Novi Sad is about an hour north. Tours usually cover Petrovaradin Fortress and the old town, then stop in Sremski Karlovci, a small baroque town known for bermet wine. Many add one or two Fruška Gora monasteries or a winery. Golubac Fortress and the Iron Gates

This is the most scenic route. The road follows the Danube east to Golubac Fortress, then into the Iron Gates gorge, the deepest on the river. Stops often include Lepenski Vir, a prehistoric settlement, and sometimes Viminacium, a large Roman site, or Silver Lake. It’s a long day, about 2.5 hours each way. Tara and Mokra Gora

West Serbia is greener and more mountainous. Tours visit Tara National Park, the house on the rock in the Drina River, Drvengrad wooden village and the Šargan Eight narrow-gauge railway. Monasteries of Central Serbia

Manasija and Ravanica are two of the best-known medieval monasteries, about 2 hours south. Tours often pair them with Resava Cave. Another option is Oplenac in Topola, the royal mausoleum with a church covered in mosaics.

Niš and Subotica

Both cities work as long day trips. Niš, about 2.5 to 3 hours south, has a fortress, Roman ruins and Skull Tower. Subotica, about 2 hours north, is known for Art Nouveau buildings and Palić Lake.

Wine Tours

Cheaper and good for solo travelers. They follow a fixed route and schedule. Pickup is often from a central meeting point, not your hotel.

May, June, September and October are the best months. Roads are good, it’s not too hot and everything is open. Summer works if you don’t mind heat. In winter, days are short and some rural places cut their hours, so shorter trips like Novi Sad make more sense.
